UNIT 57: Rule of thirds

The rule of thirds is a technique that is used in a majority of photography and visual media products such as film posters and paintings.

The rule of thirds is used as a way for pictures and media products to show the main point of focus in a landscape that can be seen as 'busy'. A grid is used as a guideline so the user can clearly see where the rule of thirds is.

Each focus point in image has it's own placement in the rule of thirds. For example: If you wanted to take a portrait photo using the rule of thirds the eyes of the subject should be placed where the upper horizontal line meets the two vertical lines.

UNIT 57: Interesting framing techniques

Interesting framing is a technique that foregoes using a grid lines and instead relies on the users creativity to frame a subject. You can use the environment, Objects and lights and shadows to create a different kind of framing.

UNIT 57: Shallow depth of field

A shallow depth of field in photography is where in the picture the focus is on the subjects in the front of the image while the background is blurry and out of focus or vise versa.

Shallow depth of field only focuses on one point in an image giving the image a 'flat look'.

Alpha bits by Tibi Tibi Neiuspiel

I enjoyed the idea of turning something that isn't made to last longer than a few days into something more permeant and lasting. Using basic lighting and muted colours give a serene feeling upon looking at it.

I also enjoyed using the alpha bits to spell out words and phrases that could give the meaning of 'eat your words'.
