UNIT 58: Is the DVD dead?

Is the DVD dead?

The DVD, Digital video disc, came about in 1995 and was mainly used for storing large amounts of data that could be viewed over and over indefinitely nearly all of the time it’s used for films and tv shows that the audience consumers watch.

A DVD normally comes out half a year or so after the film or tv show has been released. In films it would be the cinema and tv shows it would be the television.

The DVD was a success compared to it previous predecessor- the VCR as it was lighter, more compact, had clearer images and held more data and had different options and additional features such as deleted scenes, Bloopers, Interactive games and options to start from different scenes.

Although the DVD is popular it is slowly being replaced by Bluray and Instant downloads on the internet which is faster and free when illegal.

Despite this the DVD is not dead but rather slowing down but still reliable and needed.
